Artwork (the posh word for pictures) can come in various forms, oil paintings, watercolours, drawings, prints (copies of original paintings) sometimes signed or photographs perhaps by someone famous or from your mobile phone, maybe on paper or nowadays on canvas.

At Frames and Galleries we have the knowledge and materials to advise you of the best way to finish your picture so it will look right and last.

A mountboard is the piece of card that makes a border around your picture, this comes in lots of colours and has 2 uses, 1 to enhance the picture and 2 to provide a gap so the picture doesn't stick to the glass.

This is important for valuable originals or limited edition prints and photographs but not necessary for oil paintings or a canvas.

We use a high quality acid neutral board conservation grade as standard so you don't get that brown stain at the edge of your picture that you see on older pictures and we can use museum grade mountboard if required.

Apart from oil paintings or a canvas, most art pictures will be behind glass, this is to give protection to your picture and something to do on a Sunday morning, cleaning it and guess what there are different types of glass too.

2mm clear glass will suffice for most jobs but perhaps where your picture will hang might require anti reflection glass, if its valuable then UV protection may be necessary, conservation grade glass can combine both elements and we can even provide a museum quality glass for really valuable pieces.

The frame or moulding is what holds it all together and finishes the picture off, aesthetically the most important bit and you guessed it there are hundreds nay thousands to choose from and we have 300 - 400 samples here to suit most needs with catalogues to suit the rest.

We have gold ones, silver ones, black, natural, aluminium, mahogany, round, flat, fancy profiles, big ones , little ones and hand finished too to suit your needs.

Throughout construction we only use quality materials for backing your picture and cords for hanging and tapes for sealing so your frame is built to last and your picture will give you years of pleasure.
